Who else feels armed, equipped and empowered in makeup? I DO!
Apart from how I look on the outside with makeup, I truly love how makeup make me feel very confident and alive. It drastically boosts my confidence, especially when meeting people. I’ve been wearing makeups since I was in junior high school, but only on special events such as parties and birthdays. As I entered university, I started to wear makeup everyday because I want to leave a good impression to my schoolmates and also teachers. Makeup proves to show your effort in making a great impression and to professionally convince others of yourself and your branding. It started off very simple, with only using eyeliner, a bit of concealer, powder and lip cream. I wasn’t as interested in make up a couple years ago. However, as time passed by, I got influenced by my friends who are in the beauty industry and interest in learning more about makeup started to build gradually until now. Everytime I go out, I got used to put makeup on my face. How much makeup I put on varies according to where I’m going or what kind of event I’m attending. Although I’m really still in the learning stage and is nowhere near being a beauty expert, I’m going to share my daily makeup routine here and my honest review to each product I use. Hope you are inspired!
1. BASE AND CONCEALER
Starting my makeup, I first apply BB Cream from E-tude as the base. This product has a lot of functions, from being a moisturizer, primer, sunscreen, skin treatment, concealer, and also foundation. It also functions as a coverage to cover the veins on my face to my very translucent skin. This BB Cream is enriched with UV protection, so it will protect my face from UV. The only issue I got with this product is that the coverage is not really high.
After BB Cream, if I plan to go out the whole day from morning until night time, I usually apply Primer from Urban Decay. The name is Optical Illusion Complexion Primer. The cream has no color whatsoever when applied, and it blends really well to any skin tones. It reduces the look of flaws and the appearance of pores with a matte final result.
Having a really dark circle due to lack of sleep ( during my uni years, and now it’s permanent. Someone recommend me a product to help reducing it please!! 🙁 ), I conceal it with Revlon Photo Ready Stick Concealer. It’s very convenient when applying, because it’s a stick. To blend it through, I use beauty blender. The weakness I think from this product is the coverage. Because my dark circles are very dark, it’s very hard to be concealed. Finally, I apply Eyeshadow Primer by MIZZU. It’s a decent product with a really reasonable price that keeps eyeshadow last for the whole day. Read the full review of MIZZU here.
2. POWDER, CONTOUR and BLUSH
I have a pretty round face from the front, it’s the rounded shape of my face and also the chubby cheeks I have. To make myself look less like a moon, I love contouring it. The first product I use for contouring is Urban Decay Shapeshifter. This contour kit is pretty impressive, with a total of 4 powders and 5 creams to contour, colour-correct, and highlight. In terms of pigment, it doesn’t really disappoint. I usually apply on the dark brown cream with a small brush to contour my cheekbones, and dab it with a beauty blender. Next, I contour my nose with the same cream by drawing two straight lines down the bridge of the nose, then dab it afterwards. Lastly, I’ll apply the lighter brown powder with a fluffy brush underneath my jawline to create depth and dimension of my face from the sides. This technique really helps to make my jawline stands out from the sides! For highlighter, I tend to use the powder highlighter from the palette and use my finger to dab it across my upper cheek bones, underneath my brows, nose tip and a bit on the bridge of the nose.
Next on, it’s the blush! I am super in love with this small product from Maybelline named V-Face Blush Contour. This product comes with a brush and 3 powders; brown, dark pink and light pink. I usually stroke the brush in between the brown and dark pink, and apply it, right on top of my cheekbones ( so, the brown meets the brown ). I mix the 2 colors, and dab it around my cheeks to nose area.
If I was not really in the mood for a full makeup though, I’ll only use the Maybelline V-Face Blush Contour and do the same ( without cream contour and highlight )
3. EYES AND BROWS
Before applying any eye makeup, I usually curl my eyelash first. Moving on, I apply eyeshadow according to my current mood and also outfit. My eyeshadow products I always use are Naked 3 Palette, Naked Smoky Palette, and my personal favorite ( also the cheapest ever ) Beauty Creations Irresistible Palette. Honestly this palette only costs IDR 100.000 and I bought it at MIMO. The pigmentation of the colors are so impressive, I’m such a fan!! I also love to dab a bit of sparkle in the inner part of my eye, it makes so much difference, believe me.
As a Chinese, I have monolids, which means the fold in my eyes are not really visible. So after applying eyeshadows, I draw a line above my eyes, just exactly above my lashes using a liquid eyeliner from Lavie Lash. This product is by far my favorite, because they don’t smudge at all even after a whole day out. The tip of brush is very pointed, making it possible to draw very easily and to create a sharp wingtip.
For my lashes, I rarely use mascara because cleaning it up perfectly is quite frustrating. So I only wear false lashes. My favorite lashes are Blink Charm ( Natural Flair No. 2 – for a very natural look ) and Lavie Lash.
Finally, eyebrows. My brows are already pretty thick with hair, so I only need to fill it and reshape it a bit for a better shape. I only color it a bit with Etude Eyebrow Pencil or with the all-time favorite by Indonesians, Viva. Etude product comes with 2 ends, a brush and a pencil. While for Viva, the best thing is the pencil-tip like edge. So I can easily draw a sharp end on my eyebrows. This product can be purchased anywhere, in your nearest minimarket and it is so shockingly cheap. For the filler, I use Etude pencil one and brush it with the other end.
4. LIPPIE LIPS
I love to play with different products to colorize my lips. Among the brands, Meet Matt(e) Hughes from The Balm is my personal favorite I use daily. The top colors I mostly use are Sincere and Committed. Both of these colors have a dark pink color, that looks natural on my lips. Lately, I’ve been using Makeover’s Pompous too for a dark nude color.
After I’m done with the makeup, I quickly spray Urban Decay’s All-Nighter Setting Spray to make the makeup stick on my face during the entire day.
